January 12/2025                            WHAT ARE WE?

DOUGSQBCLUB is an NFL Quarterback club for kibitizing with friends, co-workers and relatives during the nfl season and not so much about winning prizes. Participants with little knowledge of NFL football like to participate in this club because we have 50+ year-end prizes, we pay $200 weekly which anyone can win even if they are near the bottom in the standings and that's why none of our individual prize amounts will ever be much higher then they are currently.  As we get more participants we add more prizes.

                                            HISTORY

This quarterback club was started in 1978 at the company Doug worked at in Welland, Ontario. It started with 15 co-workers and for the first 10 years everything was done on paper. People submitted their picks sheet on Friday then on Tuesday Doug manually scored each sheet and posted the results. In 1988 we had 100 participants when a co-worker, Mark P., wrote a neat in-house program on Lotus Notes that co-workers could use to submit picks. That same program also did the scoring and standings. It was an easy to use system. Then 10 years later in 1998 a friend wanted to hone his skills at building web sites so while on a male mat leave he, George J. from Port,  programmed an awesome web site for the club. At the start of the season we typed in the schedule for the season, entered spreads every Tuesday then on the next Tuesday the web site did all the processing and posted results. At that point since the club was now on the Internet we opened the club up to family and friends of the company participants and over the next 12 years the club grew to a high one year of 540 participants. This required that the web site programmer had to be close to home on Sundays from September to New Years. So to eliminate the need for someone to be available every Sunday we started using officefootballpool.com for our processing in 2012 and we still use it today.

                                         WHAT'S  NEXT?

This club will continue for as long as participants enjoy playing, as long as Doug is able to and wants to keep running it and this will continue as long as the number of participants stays consistent. If more than 20% of the current participants decide to stop participating, the club may fold as this would indicate that interest is waning.

If you have any ideas on what might make the club more enjoyable & more fun, tell Doug and he will look into possibly implementing your idea AND for sure invite your family members,  friends and co-workers to join.. the more participants means more and hopefully better prizes.

That's it for now.... and Go Bills!
